P.I.C.K (Premarital Interpersonal Choices and Knowledge) aka "How To Avoid Falling for A Jerk/Jerkette" by John Van Epp, PhD This curriculum does a great job looking at all the aspects that go into dating and selecting a mate. It encourages individuals to learn more about themselves as well as their potential partner before getting serious. In the program, Van Epp equates "knowing" someone equals Talk + Togetherness + Time. Without those three ingredients, a person can't "know" another person on a deep level. Doctor Van Epp spends a good amount of the curriculum's time addressing the family, and how it is critical to know your potential partner's family and how their family has both positively and negatively affected that person. Another, very important aspect of the program is how it deals with what a relationship and marriage is about. He addresses the many misconceptions of marriage and dating relationships in order to give a healthy preparation for what lies ahead. There are many more areas that the curriculum addresses and it can be a great tool for a church or organization to utilize for their singles population. You have the choice of running it as a Christian program (in which scripture is referenced quite heavily) or as a secular program (if you choose to use this as an outreach for the community).
